Regardless of whether your goals are big or small, long-term or short term, keeping a Biblical mindset is the key to overcoming every obstacle to your success.
The way that we think influences every other part of our lives, including our moods, emotions, and behaviors. The powerful wisdom in the word of God can transform our lives, allowing us to overcome challenges we never knew that we could have victory over.
A Biblical mindset is the best mindset to have, and that can lead to success victory in every area of your life.
I want to share some of my testimony with you, let you get to know a little bit more about me. I am happily married, 18 ½ years so far, I have two children ages 11 and 6 (I am homeschooling them both), and I am a certified life coach, I specialize in Life Purpose and CBT (Cognitive behavioral therapy), and NLP (neurolinguistic programming). Those last two things are both fancy ways to say brain training. You know that I’m a published author if you’ve been following for a while. I am coming out with a new book, so stay tuned for that, it will be specifically directed towards women, I’m really excited about that coming out this year.
So that is the up to date “me.” Let me share for just a minute, where I was, just a few of years ago, and the struggles that I had with my mind and how God’s word brought me out of darker places. I’m truly going to make a long story short, because I want to dive into the topic, but it’s a great setup for Biblical mindset so listen carefully. I was raised in Christian home. I got saved at 13 years old, baptized in water and in the spirit at that age. I got to know God and worship, prayer, and scripture. I had a good relationship with the Lord. I went to college and I joined the Christian fellowship there, right away. I realized that I didn’t know God as well as I thought I did. There were so many things about the Christian life that I didn’t know and understand before. I started college with so much confidence, and I had the wake up call of realizing that God and life and the world didn’t work the way I thought it did. I wasn’t the person I thought I was supposed to be. I graduated plagued with fear, self-doubt, and anxiety. I was suffering with perfectionist mindsets, comparisons, and just faulty thinking that brought me down.
I went to college to become a teacher. I became a freelance writer instead because I was afraid to be a teacher and I didn’t think that I was good enough to be one. I was stuck in that mindset for years after college. Things finally started to turn around for me when I began to listen to God’s word again. My identity came back. My confidence came back. I became a teacher. I was plagued with fear, self-doubt, and anxiety…AGAIN? I wasn’t the teacher I thought I was supposed to be. I was suffering again with perfectionist mindsets, comparisons, and more faulty thinking that brought me down. It wasn’t until after I became a mother and we started going to church regularly as a family that I realized what my problem was all along.
Before I go on, I want to ask you, can you relate to this? Have you ever tried to change, and found yourself having some limited success, but then you went back to the same old things? Have you been there? Are you there right now? Wouldn’t you love to know the secret to changing forever, for good? The answer is so simple, not easy, but simple. Let me tell you what happened.
I began truly applying God’s word to my thinking. I would hear sermons and study God’s word on my own, and pray. I would pay attention to my thoughts, I became very intentional about this, and if my thoughts didn’t agree with what I felt God was communicating with me, I let those thoughts go. I replaced them with God’s word. I made a habit of this, and now I have joy like never before, peace like never before, my confidence is in Christ, I’m not scared to do what God wants me to do anymore! I have wisdom for absolutely every situation that I face, with my marriage, my children, my finances, my career, EVERYTHING! God’s word is true, it is powerful, it is complete, and there is nothing else out there better. My whole life has been transformed because of the Bible and this strategy of actively replacing thoughts and intentionally being aware of what I’m thinking.
I’m not telling you that this transformation happened overnight. It is a process. I had to surrender my old ways of thinking. I had to let go of popular worldly ideas. I had to release control to God over my thought life. It was hard at first, but once I began to realize the freedom that it brought me, I never looked back. If you want to change, forever, God’s word is the only way. Jesus is the only way.
You might consider yourself a Christian. You might go to church, you might pray and read devotionals, and things like that. We all have struggles, obstacles, problems and things that are a part of living here on Earth. We all have a choice to make, as believers. We can either settle for salvation and live a good enough life and go to heaven and just barely survive, or we can experience heavenly victories in our daily lives. I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to wait until I see heaven to experience freedom, change, blessings, peace of mind, and joyous living. If you believe in Jesus today, and you are not experiencing regular victory in your life, something has to change. Guess what that is? Your mind! Your thinking has to be renewed by God’s word.
Success comes from God’s word. Joshua 1:8 says, “Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.” The key to success in life is literally written out in God’s Word. It is living, relevant, complex, and applicable to everything that you face in this life. It’s rich and powerful, and if you want to have a victorious life, you have to ingrain scripture in your mind and your heart. You have to change the way that you think and fix your thoughts so that they no longer contradict what God’s word says. You have to actively replace old thinking habits with a Biblical mindset. This is not a passive process! You have to be intentional about this. Trust the process, you cannot go wrong with God’s word.
God’s Word says in Isaiah 55:8-9 “My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord.
“And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.
9 For just as the heavens are higher than the earth,
so my ways are higher than your ways
and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.
The Bible is just a small portion of the mind of God, and we are privileged to know it. Think about this, He created the world and everything in it. Science is still trying to make sense of it all, thousands upon thousands of years later. God already know the answers to all of our questions. He has given us his word so that we can know His will for our lives. Don’t you want to know why God created you and what His plans are? Why wouldn’t you seek the wisdom from the one who knows it all?
I’ve been studying neuro linguistics, and personal development, and transformation for a while, and all I see is Biblical concepts. When I was training to become certified as a life coach, there really was not much that I couldn’t verify with scripture about the heart, our thoughts, and change. Understanding the process of how the mind works combined with the power of the truth in God’s word is an absolutely unbeatable formula. This is the missing part that causes a lot of the struggles people like you may have now and I used have. There is a disconnect between knowing the Bible and living out its power.
It’s not enough to just hear sermons and know a few helpful verses. Sadly, statistics show that people are spending less and less time reading, studying and meditating on God’s word. I don’t think that it is a coincidence that people are also spending more time under stress and worry, depressed, suffering poor mental health, bad relationships, financial struggles, and physical health struggles, more than ever before. We are failing ourselves because we are ignoring the very key to success: God’s word. We think we know better, we think we are too educated for that, we think it’s outdated. None of that is true.
So, one of the main foundational points of CBT (that’s cognitive behavioral therapy) is that our thoughts influence our emotions and behaviors. If we can change the way that we think, we can alter our moods and emotions, which leads to better behaviors. The word of God says in Romans 12:2 “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.” Other translations say “transformed by the renewing of your mind.”
If you think about it, copying the world is all learned behavior. You may not remember when, but someone else’s example showed you how to act the way that you act, when you’re angry, for example. You might stomp, or yell, throw something, make a certain face. You are copying someone else. I teach my kids breathing and counting and using words, to soothe and express their anger. It’s hard to change a practiced behavior like that, even though you know it’s not good. Change happens on the inside, and real transformation occurs on a subconscious level. That’s a primary point in NLP. That’s why we may experience only limited success when we try to start by altering behavior. If you don’t uproot your thinking behind what you do, you will continue to act the same. Have you tried to change your behavior, but went back to your old ways? This is why: change happens from the inside out, not the other way around.
That’s what missing. That’s why people like you and me (I struggled for years), falling back into old patterns when I knew better. In my head I knew better. Don’t you know better than to do what you do sometimes? How do you get to a place where you can change at the core? For real? For good? Meditating on God’s word like never before is the answer. Learning how to monitor and correct your thoughts, until you start automatically thinking scripture. You have to stay in God’s word to the point where your first thought is “what does the Bible say about this situation I’m facing right now?”
I have a very simple process that I teach in my community, It’s the very first thing that I coach before we get into purpose, and building confidence, and working on productivity, we work on mindset first because nothing else will stick unless you get that down first. My coaching program, Chosen, Brave and Crushing it, gives you access to that Mastering Your Mind process and that’s really step one if you want to see transformation in your life. If you are looking for lasting change in your life it starts with your thoughts and I have a solution for that.
